Salamba sirsasana or headstand is a principal component of every Jivamukti class and is referred to as the king of asanas in B.K.I. Iyengar's "Light on Yoga" for a reason. The headstand revitalises the entire body and mind by reversing gravity's effect on the body. By changing perspective, it helps to awaken the Sahasrara (crown) chakra, the chakra of higher consciousness, wisdom and unity. By turning our viewpoint upside down, we open up a variety of perspectives and become even more open in heart and mind.
But how can we take that step of trusting ourselves and carrying the full weight of our body on our head? In this workshop we will learn the connection between Tadasana and headstand, we will explore the building blocks of inversions and the correct weight distribution. We will learn how to skilfully enter and exit headstand and how to perform variations such as tripod headstand. The workshop takes place in a small group and is aimed at intermediate to advanced practitioners.
-
The headstand practice is not a prerequisite - whether you’re a novice to headstand or an experienced practitioner, we will cover all the aspects of developing your headstand practice.
-
Of course, not! The workshop will start with a meditation and breath work, followed by short vinyasa sequence in order to warm up the body. After that we will work with props into the variations of headstand, and finally end the class in Shavasana.
-
Unfortunately, no. The workshop is aimed at intermediate and advanced levels of practitioners.
